Previous Meetings

The September speaker, Sandra Soder reminded members of “Old Gravesend Shops” with such names as Bryant and Rackstraw, Collins The Waterside Shop, Gurgles dress shop and John Rose the tailor. Sadly, many of the shops that were family owned have not survived.

Here are some more names to jog your memories:
Moor’s Chemist, Chiesman’s formerly Bon Marche, Sime’s Seed Merchant, Loft Tobacconist, Rainbow Stores, Alan G. Smith, Filmer’s Wet Fish, Chris’s Records, Margarums Sweets, Schultz Stationer, Spooner Motors, Dolphin Yard Rag and Bone Man, Papa’s Ice Cream.

We all had a happy, nostalgic retail therapy trip!
